Phil Woods and The Los Angeles Jazz Orchestra
    Jazzed Media (JM1013)

How was this recording project realized? It began with producer and owner Graham Carter of Jazzed Media who admits to two main jazz heroes, specifically, alto saxophonist Phil Woods and Woody Herman. Carter explains: “I regard Phil Woods as one of the greatest jazz musicians of the last 50 years; he’s the kind of person standing at the gate with a sword in hand, not compromising.” Carter plainly admires Phil’s code of independence.

As for Woody, he says, “I love Woody’s great bands and strong leadership. I’ve wanted to do something with his charts of the late forties. Many of them were never recorded adequately so my goal was to record its music with Phil Woods as guest soloist.”

After mentioning this concept to Ken Poston, Ken judiciously assembled the Los Angles Jazz Orchestra under the capable leadership of trumpeter Ron Stout, who as a Herdsman from 1984-1990 has answered a call to participate in performances connected with Woody Herman. Ron praised the quality of the band organized by Ken, and proved it with this LIVE performance!

If you’re a fan of Phil Woods, and Woody Herman, this is the CD for you!
