“Refractions” 2003
Grammy Award Nominee!
The Kim Richmond Concert Jazz Orchestra
(Origin 82413)
Kim Richmond, one of the most creative composers, arrangers, performers and
leaders of today. His new CD “Refractions,” using some of the best recording
musicians in Los Angeles, brings this to our attention once again.
Kim says, “I am seeking a broader emotional palette for jazz. I feel that
all too often jazz, especially for large ensembles, expresses only a small range
of emotion - unlike classical music, which conveys a greater spectrum of
feeling. Granted, with jazz you get qualities not even remotely attained with the
classical idiom, i.e., rhythmatic swing and feel, and a certain exhilaration
and freedom. I wouldn’t give up these qualities for the world, but what I’m still
after is a wider variety of colors and emotions.”
I think he’s done it! If you are a fan of quality, and great talent,
“Refractions” is THE new CD to grace your ear drums.
